Spider-Man: Homecoming Hits Theatres with Big Acting Guns

If viewers are honest, they didn't know who Tom Holland was before he swung onto the scene as Tony Stark's newest acquisition in Captain America: Civil War. Holland's reprising his role as the wise-cracking teen hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming this summer, and directors have given the young actor a bit of help by casting some big guns alongside him.

A Few Avengers Show Up

UK viewers won't be surprised to see Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr., pop up amid the web-slinging. This newest silver-screen incarnation of Spidey did make his debut in the middle of the war between Captain America and Iron Man.  What might surprise some fans who haven't kept up with the Marvel movie news machine is that Marisa Tomei and Michael Keaton have large roles.

Tomei's Aunt May

Tomei plays Aunt May, and though the actress might have been born in 1964, it's a safe bet that she'll be turning the sweet old aunt stereotype on edge. She had a brief appearance as Peter Parker's caring relation in Civil War, and fans can likely look forward to at least a few frictional encounters between Tomei's Aunt May and the likes of Tony Stark — or even Peter himself.

Keaton Goes to the Dark Side

Michael Keaton hasn't graced a block-buster comic book film since he played Batman in the 80s and early 90s, though he's had plenty of career-making roles since. From DC hero decades ago to Marvel maniac, Keaton rarely turns in a poor performance. Marvel fans can likely expect a perfectly villainous display from Keaton, who is playing Adrian Toomes, aka The Vulture, aka the newest threat to everything Peter Parker holds dear.

Other Spider-Man: Homecoming Cast

The preteen viewers (and those who remain preteen at heart) will recognise Disney-star Zendaya, who plays Michelle, the requisite teen girl. Jon Favreau, who has production credits for a range of Marvel movies, will reportedly make an appearance, and of course, fans can expect Stan Lee to show up on screen at some point during the flick. Bokeen Woodbine, who is known for supporting roles in movies and television series, such as Fargo, is also part of the cast.

Whether it's a love of Spidey's sarcasm or a need to keep up with Marvel movie releases that drive viewers to the theatre this summer, the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming is unlikely to let fans down. Movie-goers can gear up with cool T-shirts showing their affinity for the web-slinger — or what side they took between Cap and Iron Man.
