Warning/ possible spoilers... Fans have been chomping at the bit to find out what happens in the new "Star Wars" instalment before it comes out this December. Many questions were posed in Episode VII, such as who is the mysterious character Snoke? Also, who are Rey's parents, and what part will Luke play in the ominous title choice of "The Last Jedi"?
While many questions will remain unanswered, at least for now, there is a place that offers insight into some. Though it doesn't offer up all the gritty details, "Star Wars" fans have found many clues to the series for Episode VIII and beyond in the officially licensed book series released as part of the new canon.
The first casualty of Disney's purchase of the "Star Wars" franchise was the catalog of novels and series detailing the adventures of characters from all over the "Star Wars" universe that had been building since the original movies were released in 1977. While the purge was met with extensive outcry, the result of Disney's slimming down in the realm of Jedi lore is a cleaner view of the direction the movies will be taking from here on out. Now that the "Star Wars" expanded universe is under strict oversight from the story group at Disney, every character, exploit and storyline is official canon.
Following the Aftermath series, fans found a character that may fit the description and backstory of the mysterious Snoke. Introduced in "Thrawn," the character General Admiral Thrawn comes from a mysterious portion of the galaxy that is gaining more and more importance to the future of the franchise.
As the story continues, it becomes increasingly clear that this powerful character may in fact be the driving force behind the new trilogy. Thrawn is by far not the only character to be pegged as the possible future of the Sith, but all the clues point to Thrawn as the most likely suspect and other options as mere distractions to throw off curious readers before the film is released.
